What are the bad effects of smoking

Smoking damages almost every vital organ in the body. Some of these ill effects are immediate.

Brain
The nicotine in cigarettes is addictive as heroin. When the brain stops receiving the nicotine, nicotine withdrawal occurs. You may feel anxious, irritable, and have a strong need for nicotine.

Ears
One effect of smoking is that it reduces the amount of oxygen reaching the cochlea. This can lead to permanent damage to the cochlea and hearing loss.

Eyes
Smoking causes physical changes in the eyes and vision. One of the effects of nicotine in cigarettes is to decrease the night vision. Also, smoking increases the risk of developing cataracts and macular degeneration which can lead to blindness.

Mouth
Smoking causes damage to the mouth. Smokers have more oral health problems such as mouth sores, ulcers, and gum disease than non-smokers. You are more likely to have cavities and lose teeth at a younger age. It also increases your risk of mouth and throat cancer.

Face
Smoking can cause the skin to dry out and lose elasticity, leading to wrinkles and stretch marks. Your skin tone may turn dull or grayish. By the time you turn 30, wrinkles can begin to appear around your mouth and eyes, making you appear older.

Heart
Smoking raises blood pressure and increases the work of the heart. Over time, that work effort weakens the heart, making it less able to pump blood to other parts of the body. Carbon monoxide from inhaled cigarette smoke also increases oxygen starvation, making the heart work even harder. This increases the risk of heart disease, including heart attacks.

Lungs
The lungs of smokers show inflammation in the minor airways and lung tissues. When the inflammation continues, it generates scar tissue. These damages lead to physical changes in the lungs and airways making it difficult to breathe.

DNA and Cancer
Your body is made up of cells that contain genetic material, or DNA, that acts as factories for the growth and function of cells. Every puff of smoking causes damage to your DNA and cells leading to cancer.
